My Story
I’ve been practicing yoga my whole adult life. I went to my first in-person class at 18, and had dipped in and out of 'Yoga with Adrienne' (the OG of YouTube yoga) videos for some time as a teenager. But, I didn’t fall in love with it immediately.
For the next 6 years, my yoga mat was rolled out sporadically, spending most of its time leaning against the side of the sofa, or resting in the corner of my bedroom. Despite going through university, spending three months in Nepal, and facing challenging times in my life, yoga was never something I turned to or fully embraced.
Until covid hit. I probably don’t need to explain to anyone how difficult that time was. I spent it working long nights and extra shifts in a care home. My mental health was in tatters. And there it was staring at me from its usual place; my yoga mat. Alongside mental health support from my GP, yoga carried me through. And the rest is history, as they say.
Fast forward to today, and my passion is facilitating people being able to find their own yoga practice. Because what my practice looks like, and what yours looks like, is different. I love introducing students to pranayama and yoga nidra, and reminding them that wellness shouldn’t be a special treat or reactionary; but a priority, and an everyday element of our lives.
Event Highlights
My 2024 goal for Hannah Jemima Yoga was to run my first ever residential retreat, and I knew Brinkburn was the perfect setting. 2 nights and 3 days of yoga, wellness, phenomenal food, gorgeous wine and, above all else, community.
Being able to spend the weekend with such an amazing group of people was the highlight of the retreat. Seeing friendships grow, and laughing until we can’t hear the music anymore - was the best bit!
Expert Tips
As a yoga teacher, my best piece of advice for anyone on their wellness journey is to find what feels good for you. And most importantly, don’t force it! Wellness shouldn’t be a monthly or quarterly treat, whether it’s yoga, ice baths or your favourite cup of coffee in peace and quiet. Listen to yourself.
Make wellness a priority and part of your life. It’s easier said than done (I know!), but it is a necessity. Try to avoid setting unrealistic goals like practicing yoga everyday or meditating every night before bed, because when you miss a day (because, life!), it’s easy to feel like you’ve failed at something.
Find what feels good and true, and allow it to become an organic part of your routine. Wellness is not a luxury - it's a lifestyle. Lean into it.
