This winter, Brinkburn Northumberland welcomed Amber Coleman Yoga and a group of wonderful guests for a truly special winter yoga retreat. There’s something magical about this time of year here, with delicate frost glistening on the trees, crisp air filling the lungs, and the satisfying crunch of fresh snow underfoot. It was the perfect backdrop for a few days of relaxation, reflection, and connection.
The retreat began on Thursday evening with a cosy welcome dinner in our beautifully restored Brinkburn Barn. Guests gathered around, enjoying delicious food and warm conversation before heading to the Loft for a sound healing session led by Rachel. The soothing tones of gongs and singing bowls reverberated through the space, creating an atmosphere of deep peace – the ideal start to the weekend.
Friday was packed with activities, starting with an energising mandala flow yoga class to set the tone for the day. After a hearty breakfast, some brave souls embraced the brisk temperatures with a revitalising dip during cold water therapy. Lunch in the Stables was a welcome retreat, where the cosy warmth and delicious food helped everyone recharge.
The afternoon was all about letting go and unwinding, with calming breathwork and restorative yoga sessions thoughtfully designed to ease body and mind. The day wrapped up perfectly with a delicious dinner, offering a chance to reflect on the experiences and connections made so far.
Saturday was every bit as magical. The day started with another invigorating yoga session, followed by a hearty breakfast that set everyone up for a nature walk around our Estate grounds. After lunch, guests enjoyed a calming aromatherapy session before sinking into yin and restorative yoga, letting the gentle movements and relaxation wash over them. The evening was capped off with a delicious plant-based feast in the Barn prepared by Paula.
Sunday wrapped up the retreat with a final mandala flow session and a relaxed brunch, a gentle way to bring the weekend to a close. It was bittersweet to say goodbye, but knowing everyone left feeling restored and refreshed made it so rewarding.
We are delighted to share that the accommodation received glowing reviews. Guests described it as “really lovely, clean and well-maintained – all the comforts of home.” The feedback warmed our hearts, as providing a beautiful, welcoming space is at the core of what we do.
